Best Android apps for artists: Infinite Painter

Infinite Painter is an all-round excellent painting app for Android that gives artists access to more than 80 brushes in addition to the ability to create your own new brushes and change the brush settings to suit your preferences.

Those brushes are designed to interact realistically with the digital paper textures, so artists can create digital paintings that closely resemble the traditional equivalent, without needing to cart around huge canvases, paints and paint brushes wherever they go.

Infinite Painter allows artists to create as many layers as they need, with Photoshop blend modes, perspective guides, selection masks and clipping masks.

It's free to download but you won't get every feature – those can be added with in-app purchases.

Best Android apps for artists: ArtRage

We're pleased to see that ArtRage has made its way onto Android tablets, as it was already one of our favourite apps for iPad.

Available for £3.49, offers unlimited digital canvases and paint that reacts realistically, allowing you create art that gives the impression of the real textures and effects you'd get from physical paint, making it an absolute joy to use. It goes as far as to track how much paint you've applied and how wet that paint is to allow you to blend and smear with various tools, perfect for watercolour or oil paints.

You'll get unlimited layers and Photoshop blending modes, unlimited undo and redo (you certainly don't get that in real life), opacity controls and more.
