Maxon has unveiled Cinema 4D Release 16 (R16), the next generation of its leading 3D software.
According to Maxon, key new features include a modeling PolyPen 'super-tool', a Motion Tracker for easily integrating 3D content within live footage, and a Reflectance material channel for multi-layered reflections and specularity. Here we take a look at some of the key new features in Cinema 4D R16.

Let's start with a simple but effective improvement to your worklfow.
Cinema 4D Release 16 includes new performance and workflow features, including a revised Content Library, support for the current versions of FBX and Alembic, a new Solo button, Annotations, a new UV Peeler and more.
Other new features in the Modeling component include an all-new Cogwheel spline primitive. The Cogwheel generates involute and ratchet gears, and maintains the proper relationship between attributes.
Most standard deformers now offer the same flexible falloff system you've come to enjoy in MoGraph effectors, including the option to animate falloff. You can work completely non-destructively, on any object, without the need to restrict deformers via vertex maps, says Maxon.
Maxon says you can quickly and seamlessly integrate 3D elements into real-world footage with the help of the Motion Tracker. Create a complete 3D reconstruction of the camera move in most footage with a single click. You bring the objects, the software will do the rest.
You can define roughness, reflection, specular, bump, colour and more within each layer, with texture masks for virtually every attribute. Maxon says you can also build multiple layers for complex surfaces like metallic car paint. Increase reality further with conductor-based fresnels and anisotrophy for magnificent metal surfaces.
The new powerful symmetry and fill options make it easy to define point and polygon selections on any editable object via the new Select tool. Add sculpted details on parametric objects via the Correction or Camera deformers, and use sculpt tools to modify the shape of muscle objects.
