This fun personal project by Chilean art director Javier Jensen is simple and wonderful (or simply wonderful, if you prefer).
Javier has created cinemagraph-style animated GIFs from famous vintage book covers. We thought we were sick of cinemagraphs until we saw these, but these are flawlessly executed. They first appear to be poorly taken photos of classic books – badly lit, no colour balancing and covered in jpeg compression – but then the animation starts.
The animation – including new elements such as the birds on the cover of JRR Tolkien's The Hobbit shown here – and seamlessly composited onto the covers. And the results are very nice indeed.
“I wanted to go back to the books that made us live, dream and believe in different things and reflect what I always imagined when I looked at their covers,” Javier told The Guardian.
