It's the month for celebrating illustration. With the V&A Illustration Awards and now the Association of Illustrators World Illustration Awards shortlists announced, we're excited to see established illustrators and fresh faces being recognised for incredible work from editorial topics such as sexual harassment to wallpaper illustration. The World Illustration Awards received a record 3,000 entries from across 75 countries, which we’re sure made the judges’ decision excruciatingly hard.
This year the awards are made up of eight categories with the shortlist including established illustrators such as Ben Tallon, Benji Davies, Claudine O’Sullivan, Coralie Bickford-Smith, La Boca, Owen Gildersleeve, Rebecca Hendin and Yukai Du.
All eight categories include book illustration, children's book illustration, design illustration, editorial illustration, advertising illustration, experimental illustration, research and site specific illustration.
This year a whole new bunch of career-boosting and cash prizes are being introduced for the Overall Professional Winner and the Overall New Talent Winner, as well as an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and Procreate software package to winners of the professional and new talent advertising categories.
The overall winner will feature in an exhibition at Somerset House, and the exhibition tours the UK and internationally. All shortlisted and winning entries presented in a high-profile exhibition at Somerset House, London held in June 2018.
Here we feature a selection from the World Illustration Awards 2018 shortlist.
