NASA’s retro space travel posters are out of this world

Invisible Creature released three beautiful artworks for the 2016 NASA calendar.

If there was ever a backpacking adventure to top all others, ‘The Grand Tour’ of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune might do it. Suddenly sun, sand and sea doesn’t seem quite good enough.

Seattle design firm Invisible Creature – who have worked for the likes of Target and Nike – released three gorgeous travel posters for the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s (JPL) Visions Of The Future 2016 calendar.

JPL may be striving for a fantastic future, but the posters’ retro, classic feel – with their bold, colourful and simple designs – hark back to the explosive, go-getter energy of the golden age of travel.

The travel posters are just one particularly mesmerising example of JPL’s ventures into commissioning design. For example, they also organised the stylistically similar Exoplanet Travel Bureau.

JPL will release digital copies of each month’s artwork for free. You can also buy prints of the posters on Invisible Creature’s website.

But sadly the calendar itself is only available to JPL and NASA staff. Sigh. Yet another reason to work at NASA.
