The first trailer for the next Star Wars movie debuted yesterday – following a teaser shown on US TV during the thumpalooza that is the Super Bowl. And the Internet proceeded to lose its knitting, mainly over a single shot of Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian.
At the same time Lucasfilm released images of four Solo character posters featuring Donald as Lando, the relatively unknown Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Emilia 'Mother of Dragons' Clarke as new character Qi'Ra and the walking carpet that is Chewbacca. You can see them all here.
In keeping with Star Wars film posters both old and new, they're painted rather than photographic. Lucasfilm hasn't said who the artist is, though it could well be The Last Jedi poster artist Paul Shipper.
The return of the Star Wars series in 2015 helped renew an interest in painterly posters. We explored this last year in our story on how illustrated movie posters are making a comeback.
The film covers the story of Han Solo as a younger man than in A New Hope – including how he first me Chewbacca, Lando and Maz Kanata (from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi).
Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out on May 25, 2018 [Why not May 4th, ed].
