These delightful animal illustrations by Northern Ireland-based illustrator and designer Martina Scott capture the essence of how many of us are feeling today starting back at work in the New Year – or how many of us feel on a normal Monday – and how differently we feel on a Friday.
Every Monday and Friday of 2017 Martina drew an "eclectic bunch of emotional animals" which we can all relate to – a sloth crawling to a pot of coffee for Monday and a disco-raving, glow stick clad raven for Friday. It was a self-initiated project, of which she says started "quite spontaneously".
The aptly named, and rather mammoth in size, 'Monday Friday Project' includes 52 different animals across 104 illustrations.
“I’ve had a lot of fun with these illustrations, working with animals like a spider crying from every eye, a hedgehog flipping the bird, a raving raven and a party panda,” she says.
There’s also aa 'Down with Mondays' T-shirt wearing giraffe and a skating swan.
Martina uses "a happy marriage of traditional and digital" techniques resulting in highly textured work. She was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards in 2016 and had a number of exhibitions last year in her home city, Belfast. Martina also participated in Inktober and a year-long visual project – Dear Doodle Diary.
