Paper-loving creative/design studio from Hamburg, Germany

Stellavie is a Hamburg-based design studio loving paper, print, production, typography, concepts, curiosity and surprising ideas and solutions. It is run by Steffen Heidemann and Viktoria Klein.

The duo work for clients both national and international – as much as producing and releasing a wide range of self-generated print projects, engravings and greeting cards.

Where did you train, and did you specialise in any one area?

Communication Arts and Design in Hamburg.

What's your favourite tool?

This has to be pen and paper; every great story begins with a raw idea and grows with it. We also love our laser cutter/engraver.

What techniques to do you use most?

Though it might sound a bit cheesy, our process always involves a mix of our hands, brain, pen and paper, and computers. All can be infinitely exceptional tools.

What has been your favourite piece you've created?

Our recent stellar map silkscreen print project, as it’s rich in details and typography, yet stunningly beautiful in its complexity.

What kinds of materials do you work with?

Almost everything is paper related, though some projects involve wood.

What (if any) computer packages do you use?

MacBook Pro + Adobe Creative Suite software and a number of little add-ons and tools, such as Evernote, Divvy and Dropbox.

Which clients have you worked for? Where have you exhibited your work?

We’ve worked for both national and international clients, but have mostly exhibited in a few publications, including gear patrol, designmadeingermany, i-d magazine, designboom, contemporist and trendhunter.

What inspires you?

Passion, curiosity, kindness, art, books, production techniques – everything that has a surprising element to it…
